Temple Prep Youth Orchestra

Better known throughout the tri-state area of PA, NJ and DE as simply “Temple Music Prep,” its official title is actually Temple University Music Preparatory Division of the Boyer College of Music and Dance. Serving the Philadelphia community as the non-credit continuing education division of the Boyer College and its parent institution Temple University, Music Prep provides a broad spectrum of music and dance offerings. These range from individual music lessons for all ages and ability levels, to group enrichment opportunities for children as young as newborns and includes all ages in between through adulthood. Also under its aegis are two centers: the Community Music Scholars Program which provides a comprehensive program of jazz and classical music instruction for school-aged Philadelphia children of limited financial means; and the Center for Gifted Young Musicians, designed specifically for the training of young string and harp players who demonstrate great potential for musical achievement by performing at an advanced level.

NYYS

New York Youth Symphony

The New York Youth Symphony is the most awarded youth program of its kind in the nation, recognized for its innovative, tuition-free educational programs for talented young musicians. Founded in 1963 as an orchestra to showcase the metropolitan area’s most gifted musicians ages 12-22, its activities have since grown to encompass programs in chamber music, conducting, composition, and jazz, with performances at world class venues including Carnegie Hall and Jazz at Lincoln Center. Through its commissioning program, First Music, the NYYS has commissioned over 140 works from young composers since 1984.

Peabody Youth Orchestra

With approximately 2,000 students passing through its doors every week, the Peabody Preparatory is Baltimore’s premier community school for the performing arts. It is open to students of all ages and levels of ability with offerings ranging from early childhood classes for infants to the Adult and Continuing Education (ACE) program for adults.

The Peabody Youth Orchestra is the premiere instrumental performing ensemble of the comprehensive instrumental offerings at the Peabody Preparatory, which includes four orchestras, and three wind ensembles. The primary goal of the Peabody Youth Orchestra is to enrich the lives of participating musicians, and their audiences, through the rehearsal and performance of orchestral repertoire at the highest possible level. The mission of the Maryland Classic Youth Orchestras (MCYO) is to nurture, develop and advance young talented musicians in a quality orchestral program.

The MCYO program creates a seamless connection between the artistic and the educational experience. MCYO now enjoys its first permanent home in the grand Music Center at Strathmore. MCYO is highly regarded regionally and nationally as one of the country’s most outstanding youth orchestra programs.
