Duo Concerto Competition
Bach Double Violin Concerto | Vivaldi Concerto for Violin, Cello, & Orchestra
Important: The PIMF Duo Concerto Competition takes place during the June session only, with the competition during the first week and final performance during the second week. Students attending only one week of the festival are still eligible to participate, but must be available during both weeks. Final competition and performance dates to be determined.
For Violin:
Violin students will be given a perhaps once-in-a-lifetime opportunity at the Philadelphia International Music Festival to compete for an on-stage duo concerto performance with a member of The Philadelphia Orchestra! To qualify for this competition, violin students must prepare by memory either the first, second, or third movement of the Bach Double Violin Concerto, 2nd violin part. One winner will be chosen for each movement. Students of all ages may compete. There are no age divisions in this summer music camp competition. Rehearsal with faculty accompanist and faculty violinist will constitute first round. First round may take place early. Come prepared!
For Cello:
Cello students must perform by memory the first movement of the Vivaldi Concerto for Violin & Cello in B-flat major, RV 547. Students of all ages may compete. There are no age divisions. Rehearsal with faculty accompanist and faculty violinist will constitute first round. First round may take place early. Come prepared!
Please note: Students desirous of participating in the Bach Double or Vivaldi Competition must fill out the appropriate competition forms online after registering for their PIMF session. Please note that we expect all musicians participating in solo performances of any kind to come adequately prepared – ready to perform skill-appropriate, polished, performance-ready music.
